Prof. Dr. Ilina Micheva is the head of the clinical hematology clinic at Sveta Marina UMBAL, Varna and the head of the hematology department, Second Department of Internal Medicine at the Medical University, Varna.

She graduated in medicine with honors from the Medical University, Varna in 1993. Acquired a specialty of Internal Medicine in 1998, and in 2006 – clinical hematology.

Her academic development began in 2000 as a full-time PhD student at the University of Patras, Greece with a scholarship from the Hellenic Foundation for Government Scholarships (IKY). In 2005 defended

her doctorate degree at the University of Patras, Department of Internal Medicine, Department of Hematology, Greece on the topic “The role of dendritic cells in hematopoietic defects in patients with MDS”. 

Since 2006 she works at the University Hospital UMHAT ”Sveta Marina’‘, Hematology Clinic and from 2014 to 2023 she is a Head of the Stem cell Transplantation unit. Since 2019, she holds position of Head of the clinical hematology clinic at Sveta Marina UMBAL, Varna.

In connection with her clinical and scientific interests, she has conducted numerous specializations and trainings in Bulgaria and abroad. She is the co-author of over 100 scientific publications in national and international refereed scientific publications and the national hematology guidelines. She participated as a leader or member of research teams in national and international scientific projects. He is a member of the commission for the state examination for the specialty “Clinical Hematology” and the “Expert Council on Clinical Hematology”.

Currently, Prof. Micheva is the president of the Bulgarian Medical Society of Hematology (BMSH), chairman of the scientific group on myeloproliferative neoplasias and myelodysplastic syndromes and a member of the working group on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation of the same society, chief coordinator for Bulgaria of EUMDS register and expert at the Program Committee of the European Commission, member of Union of scientists-Varna, European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, European Hematology Association, American society of hematology.
