Assoc. Prof. Dr. Iva Gavrilova, MD, PhD, is a surgical oncologist with over 20 years of experience in the operative and systemic treatment of melanoma and other skin tumors at the Clinic of Oncodermatology of the University Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment in Oncology (USВАLO) “Prof. Ivan Chernozemski” – Sofia, Bulgaria. She specializes in the early detection and performance of innovative diagnostic methods, complex surgical procedures, and reconstructive operations for patients with various malignant skin lesions.
Assoc. Prof. Gavrilova completed her training in General Surgery at the Medical University of Sofia. She pursued further specialization in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Paris, France. In 2018, she earned her PhD in Oncology. As of May 2024, she holds the academic title of Associate Professor of Oncology at the Department of Medical Oncology at USBALO – Sofia.
She is a co-founder and secretary of the Bulgarian Association for Dermato-Oncology (BADO), contributing significantly to the improvement of standards in the diagnosis and treatment of cutaneous neoplasms. Assoc. Prof. Gavrilova serves as the national representative and chief coordinator for Bulgaria in the European Melanoma Registry. She is actively engaged in national and international research projects, academic and scientific activities, with contributions to numerous publications, medical textbooks, and is the author of a monograph on the modern clinical-diagnostic approaches and treatment of rare malignant skin tumors.
A committed member of various medical organizations, both national and international, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of oncology.
Her professional excellence has been recognized with the “Darzalas” Award for contributions to clinical oncology at the IX National Oncology Conference MORE (2018) and the prestigious “Doctors We Trust” Plaque awarded by the readers of the newspaper 24 Chasa (2024).
