Dr. Angel Yordanov has been working in the Department of Gynecologic Oncology, at the University Hospital “Dr. Georgi Stranski” – Pleven since 2004, and since 2021 he has been an associate professor at the Department of Obstetric Care at the Medical University – Pleven. He is developing an original program for translational research in the field of gynecological oncology with a special focus on cervical carcinoma, which is a significant medical problem worldwide. Assoc. Prof. Yordanov is concerned with the identification of new prognostic markers in this disease, which have a potentially easy clinical application due to the use of immunohistochemical methods. Assoc. Prof. Yordanov is the superviser of the team introducing electronic brachytherapy in gynecological malignancies treatment, which enriches their multimodal treatment with the possibility of improving long-term clinical outcomes. He is the author of over 120 publications in refereed Western journals with many citations.

For 2024, he is the winner of the Pythagoras Award for an established scientist in the field of life sciences and medicine, as well as the SONM-MORE 2024 “Wreath of Courage” award.
